Happy, Gay, and a Right to Marry
(Crossposted from www.c4chaos.com)
This is a big victory for gay and lesbian couples in California.
"SAN FRANCISCO — Gay and lesbian couples in San Francisco rejoiced on Thursday over a State Supreme Court decision affirming their right to marry even as political leaders on both sides of the issue girded for an extended fight over the ruling in the courts and at the ballot box."
But the battle is far from over.
"Opponents of same-sex marriage said they had gathered 1.2 million signatures to place a constitutional amendment on the November ballot that would define marriage as between a man and a woman, and effectively undo the Thursday decision." [read more]
A constitutional amendment? Jeesh. How about a constitutional amendment to have health care as a basic human right? Yeah, yeah, this is debatable. I'm just trying to illustrate how silly this call for a constitutional amendment--defining marriage between a man and a woman--is. What's up with people's priority? Does this issue really warrant a constitutional amendment? Does squabbling over people's right to marry whomever they want more important than the current health care crisis in the U.S.?
Anyway, to all my LGBT friends, godspeed and enjoy your new rights.

A big victory not only for those in California but the whole world because this will make more places follow suit. A victory for everybody and it doesn't matter whether they acknowledge it or not. People's consciousness are accelerating to a higher vibrational consciousness and we are heading towards a more enlightenened society. Hopefully , health care for all is next. Thank you for sharing this.

I couldn't believe it was on our ballot in 2000, i never thought such a thing could pass here. A vote in this state to declare marriage ONLY between a man and woman? WOW. How did this pass in California, who were these voters, where did they come from? Did moderate & liberal voters not bother to vote, not believing it would pass here? Is this where we began to lose control of what 'freedom' is all about?
i realize its not over yet, as those same california's may have a say again! … But, for the moment a spark of joy, a hope for a future of change (inclusion over exclusion)… a realization finally a court ruled on 'reality of what equality is'. Perhaps this could also be a gateway for more basic human rights including health care :D A gateway to the oneness of all people.
Some of the news talk & print bring up the concept, with the determined Obama supporters voting this election, a younger & more open crowd actually showing up at the polls, we could be seeing an entirely different group voting this time :D??? Also, those who thought it couldn't happen here, perhaps will be moved to make OUR voices heard this time. I hope it doesn't make it on the ballot, because your right it is so damn silly!!!!
