John Mackey Gives an Integral Overview of Food

Steve Frazee loves John Mackey. Me too. Who wouldn't? Aside from being the kick ass CEO of Whole Foods (and having the foresight of investing in Zaadz :)), John Mackey is one of the most vocal and integrally-minded CEOs out there. And I don't use the word "integral" very lightly. What sets Mackey apart from other successful CEOs, let alone from people who just talk about theories and what not, is that he walks his talk and he's not afraid to face and embrace his critics.

Case in point: Check out this video of the first part of Mackey's dialogue with Michael Pollan. In this video, Mackey gave an integral overview of the food industry -- a must-see (see part two here). Very fluffy.

John Mackey's Past, Present and Future of Food - CEO of Whole Foo

How many CEOs do you hear talking about vertical development, consciousness and "not romanticizing the past"? Imagine if CEOs of the transportation industry, energy industry, tech industry, and all other crucial industries would follow Mackey's example. Then Capitalism would have a more conscious landscape. Mackey puts the Capital in Consciousness.

Btw, if you prefer to hear the audio of the entire discussion between John Mackey and Michael Pollan, you can download it for free from Social Innovation Conversation podcast. I highly recommend eavesdropping on that audio, not only because of the insightful exchanges between Mackey and Pollan, but also because it is a great example of a constructive debate/dialogue. I hope to see more constructive discussion like this in business, education, (gah!) politics, and especially, in the integral circle.
