Metacafe Producer Rewards Rocks!

I've been playing around with Metacafe lately. The main hook that attracted me to the video site is its generosity in profit-sharing via the Producer Rewards program. The program pays "producers" $5 for every 1,000 views once the video generates 20,000 views (with a rating of 3.0 and higher). The math is simple: 20,000 views = $100; 200,000 views = $1,000; 2 million views = $10,000, and so on...
Compare that with YouTube in which you get, um, nothing, except maybe uber-popularity like that sweet lonelygirl15.
Anyway, my point is, with Metacafe, anyone who has a camera, creativity, and serendipitous timing can turn a short video into a money-making machine!
Here's one idea in using the producer rewards for good: Let's say you have a "cause" that you want to support, say like, poverty, hunger, human rights, animal rights, or what have you. You can create videos with the theme of your "cause." You then submit your video to Metacafe, sign up for Producer Rewards, cross your fingers that your video gets the viral effect, and when it does, donate a portion or even 100% of the proceeds to the charity or non-profit institutions related to your "cause."
Think it's impossible to get enough hits that pays? Think again.
Remember the video Free Hugs? Currently, it has a total of 11+ million views on YouTube. If it was posted on Metacafe and it got the same number of views then it would've earned a whopping $55,000+! So next time, think before posting your original "hit" video.
This inspired me to take videos more seriously. Unfortunately, I don't have a video cam. So I'll give Metacafe a try by posting my original videos using my crappy webcam. Who knows, when I get lucky, I might earn enough to buy myself a decent video cam. We'll see if serendipity will be on my side this time.

As for the site, thank you. What an exciting idea! I'm wondering how they make money, in order to pay out to producers? From advertising maybe?

not sure what you talking about. if you're talking about the video ads at the end of the cliip, then yeah, they're “randomly” generated so people would see different things. don't worry Metacafe clearly marks adult content videos :)
