The Secret: First 20 minutes
I still haven't seen The Secret. Not really too crazy about it. The genius of The Secret is in the repackaging of ancient wisdom as well as its timing.

I believe that there's some truth to the Law of Attraction. To me, it's just an elaboration of The Golden Rule applied to the mental sphere. What I'm uncomfortable with is throwing it around like some secret Gospel. That's a gross over simplification, imho. Thoughts DON'T exist in a vacuum of our own subjectivity. Inter-subjectivity counts.

But hey, if it works for people, good for them. However, you'll have more chances of manifesting the reality that you want if you practice the positive attitude AND do the hard work at the same time. Then realize that you don't always get what you want, but you get what you need. And that everything is impermanent.

Thanks to Julian for the link to the first 20 minutes of The Secret :)

Kick ass man!
I think it's great that you said that; that I do.
Peggy J once told me, “The secret is in one's self.” And I found this to be true.
Hence, there is no secret. We know what we know because we know it for ourselves. If what we “know”, is something that someone has fed us, than we simply don't know. :o)

A friend of mine invited me to her home, then played “The Secret,” telling me that this awesome message had changed her life.  I recognized themes and fragments from wisdom traditions, and pop psychology–I don't remember a lot of it.  At the time it struck me as what you'd get if you had the average used car salesperson doing a pitch for wisdom tradition concepts.  I agree with you, ~C4, that “if it works for people, good for them.”  So I responded positively and supportively toward my friend's interests, but I'm also glad to express my personal perceptions here!
