EK4D: Are There Any Fluffy Scientologists Out There?

This Evil Koan was inspired by this Tom Cruise interview:
"'You can be Catholic and be a Scientologist. You can be Jewish and be a Scientologist,' Tom Cruise--movie star and male half of the relationship otherwise known as TomKat--told Diane Sawyer in an interview scheduled to air Friday on ABC's Primetime.'"But we're just Scientologists.'"
No. This is not a trick question. I'm really serious about this. I have done my own research on Scientology and I think that a lot of their practices and tenets are really cool. I can also emphatize with Scientology, because as a (technically, non-practicing) Catholic, I know how it feels to get ridiculed because of one's religion.
I don't intend to start a stupid lemon eating debate on this so please hold off your stupid lemon eating comments if you have nothing intelligent to say. I'm doing this because I really want to know if there are any Scientologists here in Zaadz and because I haven't talked to any Scientologist in meatspace or cyberspace. (and besides, Buddhists are boring the hell out of me already) :-)
I think I may have seen a couple of them...

So, are there any fluffy Scientologists in the house?

Hey C4………..What is a “lemon eating debate”?……..lol
But really………. I am dummy
Me too…….What is Scientology?
Been reading a bit on Christian Science……but not the same thing right?
H
:-| To be absolutely clear about this to all My Zaadz friends; I am an
Integral Yogi Student (IYS) So I am NOT ANY OF THAT, But as an IYS I agree with ~C all should be investigated if put forward by anyone of the Zaadz Community. So I am investigating as I speak…….keep you posted. :-| I also would want to see people who know more about this post their posts on this subject. (I hope I am not a lemon-head, if so I will Integrate that too)
hahaha. sorry for not explaining. here is a meta-post on lemon eating: You Stupid Lemon Eater (YSLE!) for the meaner version, there's YSSE! :)
and yes, Christian Science is very different.
I would be kind of surprised if there were Integrally minded Scientologists, just given the nature of the org and the people I've met in LA that gravitate towards it. Then again… I could be wrong.
dude! i'm still (technically a non-practicing)Catholic. so there.
My mother makes me laugh when she says she's a “recovering Catholic”…………
Lemon eaters…….? Read the hyperlink…..call me ignorant…….um “uptight”? Walking w/ stick in butt?
more like Tom Frooze……. you know what I’m saying?
hellz yeah, bro good times good times.
I have 2 step brothers that are Scientologists. Pretty secret stuff. I am not sure you would get much C~ except a suggestion to read Dianetics. It has taken me years to to get a generally vague idea of what is going on. From that outsider perspective, the core of it has to do with identifying and purging belief systems and habitual thought patterns acquired through out one's life that are not healthy or serving one's best interests. There are levels of inquiry and with each level there is a release or type of ascendency I get the feeling.
Also, they have quite a bit of literature on principles for running a business or any organization for that matter. My step brothers make a tidy sum of money using these principles for their own telecom business.
Beyond that, I am clueless. They found answers in Scientology. There is a lot of controversy in my family about it. I am of the opinion live and let live. If it works great. I have no indication of how much of the media hype about cultism is true, but then again I am not on the inside.
Good Luck!

Who is (or isn't) a Scientologist, their various schemes for entrapping young impressionable actors (they run play houses and acting classes), and how much control their industry mafia has over who gets parts is always an entertaining topic of conversation around the office.
Not that that says too much about the beliefs and all. But you (ex)Catholics have got no such secret control over L.A. Apparently the Mormons are making some good in roads though…

hahaha. speak for yourself Umguy! we've got the richest sovereign state in the world to back up our sh*t! all your bases are belong to us! lol.
ok. let's get back to the topic….
I've got a very interesting Scientology story for you all sometime. It is much too detailed to go into here. Reminds me, C4, that I have to write about that sometime. It is hilarious…. and kind of pathetic in a sad sort of way.
Let me just say that when I was in La-la land last (North Hollywood) to be exact, I had no idea how pervasive Scientology was among the up-and-comers. I had a cousin who moved out to LA with her boyfriend and they got hooked up in Scientology and took me to a Scientology half-way house (yeah, apparently they own these apartment buildings and allow incoming students of the faith to stay in these apartments. People all over the place. Freaky vibe. Very eager people to get you 'in.'
Anywho, umguy may know what I am talking about here…. but just let me say… you know those booths in the mall—the ones in the middle of the mall where they sell all manner of necklaces and jewelry, food processors, and assorted gadgets. (scientology people?!)
I swear. They travel the country. The young Scientologist lives like a gypsy in some cases…. hawking all mannner of goods.
My cousin sold pens for 10 to 12 hours a day.
There's something 'fishy' going on there. You can just sense it. My 'cult-meter' went ballistic in LA!! ; o )
~C – You guys just aren't as concerned about worldly domination as you used to be. It's cool. But it's why the Scientologists are winning (in the battle for secret control of popular culture that is).
I actually work with a lot of Catholics and many of them are upset there isn't more orginzation by the higher ups. Well, it's a goofy town sometimes.
David Jon: What you're saying sounds right. Every time I've talked to anyone involved I wind up with really weird vibes(beyond being hasseled when you walk past the local centers). And you hear all kinds of stories about what resources they have, and how they harrass anyone who writes about them, and how they have the weird habit of cultivating celebrities trying to hide skeletons.
Well, the long and short of it is, it has way to much of a brain-washy vibe. But is far too entertaining not to dig into from time to time.
man, i knew this was inevitable. all these stories corroborated all the biographical stuff i've read about people's experiences with Scientology.
but for the record, again, my intention here is not to antagonize the fluffy Scientologists out there. there are tons of cults that engage in their own practices. and i'll even dare say that the only thing that distinguish these cults from mainstream religion is time and mainstreamness.
so far we've haven't heard from Scientologists people. i somehow doubt that this thread will bring them out. but if there are former Scientologists out there who want to participate in this discussion, we're all ears, eyes, minds, and compassionate hearts. right non-Scientologist peeps?
I'd really be interested to hear from someone who was/is a Scientologist.
(wrestles with coming out of the closet)
Brondu:
Just because it's true of their biggest spokespeople doesn't mean….
You can stay safe if you like.
