10:15am - The Blog Advantage: What Blogs are and Why They are Taking Over
notes:
-- visibility and practicality
-- all pages are created by a database; pages are automatically laid out and formatted; content is separate from formatting; multiple users can contribute (from anywhere); software is free (or really cheap); IT'S*EASY*
-- wanna blog from your car? check out http://www.copytalk.com
-- all exotic technologies become boring commodities
e.g. Photoshop vs. Quantel Paintbox
-- visibility: Google (and other search engines) love blogs!
-- "Nigritude Ultramarine" is a testament to the power of blogs
http://www.google.com/search?q=nigritude+ultramarine
-- Google Loves Blogs: clean architecture, focused on content, frequently updated, makes lots of pages that are never forgotten (permalinks); link love; comments
-- Google loves sites that are flat and wide in terms of architecture. that's why blogs rule :)
-- spam blogs = robots using sites such as blogger to re-blog stuff with the intention of serving stupid ads!
-- avoid free blog service if you're a business blogger. aka "roach motel blogs". blogs should be easily exportable. (e.g. how to move without breaking the permalinks)
-- Blogs "broadcast" via RSS: 100 million regular readers of RSS; Digierati and press pay close attention; Windows Vista: A tipping point? Microsoft is all over RSS!
